    Abstract:

【Abstract】Objective: To investigate the effect of health education based on the teach-back method in patients with epiretinal membrane, and to provide evidence for optimizing clinical nursing pathways. Methods: A total of 208 patients (208 eyes) who underwent epiretinal membrane peeling surgery in our hospital from January 2024 to April 2025 were selected and divided into a routine group (n=104) and a study group (n=104) according to the nursing plan. The routine group received conventional health education, while the study group additionally received teach-back-based health education. Both groups underwent a 1-month intervention (twice a week, 20–30 minutes each session). Before and after the intervention, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale (ESCA), World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF), and a nursing satisfaction scale were used to evaluate patients'' anxiety, depression, self-care ability, quality of life, and nursing satisfaction. Results: After the intervention, the HAMA score in the study group was (10.15±1.63) and the HAMD score was (10.86±1.81), both significantly lower than those in the routine group [(11.13±1.92) and (11.78±2.24), respectively, P<0.05]. The scores of all dimensions of ESCA, all domains of WHOQOL-BREF, and all dimensions of the nursing satisfaction scale in the study group were significantly higher than those in the routine group (P<0.05).Conclusion: Implementing teach-back method-based health education in patients with epiretinal membrane can effectively alleviate negative emotions, enhance self-care ability and quality of life, and improve patient satisfaction with health education.
